Other STIs: Sexually Transmissable Infections HIV is not the only disease that is spread through sex. There are many other types of infections that you can get by having sex. They are called Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Some STIs can be cured easily, but others, if not treated, can have serious effects on your health. Some infections have no cure, but can be controlled. STIs can make you unable to have children and some can cause cancer. It is possible to have an STI and not have any symptoms. |

The term STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) is now commonly used in the health field in place of STD. STI is more encompassing as it includes infections that may be asymptomatic. The term STI is used more frequently on this website, but the term STD may still be used in some links and in earlier publications. ~Source: Health Canada Website For more details, visit STDResource.com and click on "What We All Need to Know about Sexually Transmitted Diseases".
