Getting Tested for HIV If you have been doing things that put you at risk for HIV, you might want to be tested. If you have been infected with HIV, it can take up to 6 months for your body to produce enough HIV antibodies to be measured by an HIV test. This means that you could be infected with HIV for up to SIX MONTHS before you would test positive for HIV. Even if you test negative for HIV in the first six months after you are infected you can pass HIV on to other people. |

You can get tested for HIV and other STIs by your family doctor, at walk-in clinics and at any of the HIV/AIDS Clinics in B.C. Most clinics in BC offer anonymous testing, which means that you don't have to give your name and it will not show up on your medical record.
